Lubricant is used for a variety of activities. For some, it is needed to create wetness, and for others it enhances a pleasurable experience. No matter what the reason is, not everyone is able to get their hands on some sticky-sweet goodness. Here are some household alternatives that you can use if you find yourself in this situation!

Oils

There are a surplus of oils that can be used in replacement of lube. These oils include coconut oil, avocado oil, and olive oil. These oils are natural-based, making them typically safe to use on skin. Some folks do have allergies to certain oils, so we recommend doing a spot test on your wrist or inner thigh at least 24 hours before using it on any more sensitive areas. When considering oils, it’s important to remember to stay away from anything that contains petroleum or mineral oil as a base, such as baby oil. In addition, if you’re using latex-based safer sex products, oil-based lubes are not recommended, as they can cause those products to break. This includes latex condoms, dental dams, finger cots and gloves.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera can be great for your skin and can work as a perfect alternative for lube. Aloe vera is water based, making it safe to use with condoms. However, it’s important to watch out for any aloe products containing extra ingredients like alcohol. In addition, just like with oil, some folks are allergic to aloe, so it’s important to do a spot test before using it during sexual experiences.

If you find yourself using any of these substitutes, remember to read the contents of the subject and check for any ingredients that may be harmful to you. Happy lubing!
